Choosing your wording
More than ever, wedding invitations are becoming representative of the couple’s style and personality. Wording can also reflect individuality! Below are some examples of invitation wording, from formal and traditional to casual and whimsical. |
Must-haves:
- Who is getting married?
- Who is hosting the party
- Where the ceremony and other events take place
- When to be there
Traditional Wording:
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Mackereth
Request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Veronica Philippa
and
Steven John Davies
Saturday, the thirtieth of September
at three thirty in the afternoon
Summerland Rotary Walking Pier
Lakeshore Road, Summerland, British Columbia |

This would be used when the Bride’s parents are primarily paying for the wedding. Some options to consider are:
- do you prefer Mr. and Mrs., or would you prefer to include both first names? “Bruce and Kimberly Mackereth request the honour...”
- should the groom’s parents names be included? “Steven John son of Alan and Cheryl Davies...”
- “In the afternoon” is optional, also you may want to add “two thousand six”.
- “Request the pleasure of your company” is an alternate idea for a more familiar or intimate feeling. |
